5 Tips to Prevent Acne

Many people believe that chocolate and oily foods can cause acne. But the truth is, it is the biggest misconception about acne. In fact, hormonal changes have the greatest effect on acne formation. Highly stressed lifestyle can also promote breakouts so it would be better to stay calm and relaxed all the time. Even though there is no sure way to prevent acne, these following tips can help in reducing pimples and the severity of breakouts.

1. Always clean your face

Whether you have pimples or not, the most important thing to do to prevent acne is to wash your face two times a day to remove dirt, excess oil and dead skin cells on the surface of your skin. Washing more than twice a day is not necessarily better, instead, it may do more harm than good.

Always use warm water instead of hot water with a mild cleanser. Using harsh soap can only hurt the inflamed skin and cause even more irritation. Also make sure that you wash your face after exercising because sweat can clog your pores.

2. Moisturize

Many people don't realize that many anti-acne products have ingredients that can dry your skin. So it is advisable to always use moisturizer to minimize skin peeling and dryness. And always make sure that the moisturizer you choose is appropriate to your skin type since they moisturizers for oily, dry or combination skin.

3. Try to avoid makeup

Whenever you have an acne breakout, avoid wearing makeup like foundation, powder or blush on. If you can’t avoid wearing makeup make sure that to wash it off at the end of the day to prevent acne breakouts.

Also, if it’s possible, use oil-free cosmetics without added chemicals and dyes. Choose a makeup labelled with “non comedogenic”, which means it shouldn’t cause pimples. Make sure that you read the ingredients before buying any product.

4. Keep your hands from your face

One way to prevent acne is to avoid touching your face with your hands. This also includes propping your chin or cheeks on your hands. By constantly touching your face can only spread bacteria and irritate an already inflamed skin. It is also not advisable to pop your zit with your fingers because it can lead to infection and scarring.

5. Stay out of sunlight

Ultraviolet rays from the sun is a sure fire way of increasing inflammation and redness of your skin. And there are many acne medications can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. So it would be best to limit your time in the sun, especially during 10 in the morning until two in the afternoon.

Make sure that you wear protective clothing like long-sleeved shirts or wide brimmed hats.

You can also apply an SPF 30 or higher sunscreen twenty minutes before sun exposure, whether you have pimples or not.

While it might look like hard work, these simple tips is a much better way than using a mile long skin care product that can definitely help prevent acne from formulating. Just keep in mind that you can never avoid pimples without a regular skin care regimen. So make sure that you take care and pamper your skin to have a clear and smooth skin.
